4th Movember 2009 So I was gonna thank everyone for making such a great effort with costumed representing Wudaokou so well at the Yen Halloween but fuck it. Going there was it's own reward. If you went, you know what I'm talking about. I have to say though, everyone definitely went above and beyond on costumes. There were some pretty spectacular outifts on display. And talk about safety. I have never seen so many health care professionals at a Chinese event before. There were plenty of cameras flashing, o for those of you with State Department aspirations, you better check out the photographic evidence at the Yen website, ClubZone.cn, the Beijinger or proxy-enabled FaceBook (you lucky bastard). Oh, but as good as the costumes were, I don't think any topped this one. Genius. |

17th September 2009 This Fall, Lush brings the madness once more with Lush Rush Week, the traditional start of the Wudaokou Fall Semester. And let’s face it; is there really any better way to welcome Beijing into your hearts than by introducing Qingdao beer into your liver? We think not. So unpack your crap, sign up for those inconveniently scheduled ‘classes’ that everyone seems to be carrying on about, and get your ass down to the Wudaokou crossroads for orientation, double time, because invariably, it’s going to get messy. lush | very happy hours

All in addition to our very fine Award Winning (or at least Editor Picked) standard Happy Hour specials About Lush Rush Lush Week Rush is a bi-annual event we’ve been doing for nearly 4 years running. It’s basically a big, crazy, loved up welcome to Wudaokou bash for all the new incoming students featuring our standard event line-up (plus a few surprises) but cranked up to 11. Expect to see crazy cheap drinks, great live bands, and lots and lots of giveaways. |

16th September 2009 Okay, it's a little early but trust me. You'll need time to prepare. The YEN Fetish Halloween party is the biggest event of the year and you will not want to be caught short, either alcoholical or sartorially. If you know what I mean. There's a couple of pictures on the left. And they're not even from the halloween party. They're ALL like that. I think that one was the YEN 5th anniversary party but there's no way to tell. I was so drunk. SO anyway, we at Wudaokou have a long tradition of being the most inebriated and least-dressed attendees at YEN. We also like to organize group themes, because nothing says awesome like 30 hot kids in karate outfits bombed on Jager. Check out some more party pics here. |

30th August 2009 Oh my god. The girl on the McDonald's delivery hotline could recognize my voice, and I think Starbucks was thinking of opening up a branch in my wardrobe but no more! For Lush hath arisen from the ashes like a cricket match. No? I guess cricket jokes just aren't funny. Anyway Lush is back and it looks awesome. Come on in and check out the premier Wudaokou student hotspot in all it's glory. Also, check out out new wraps! |

10th August 2009 As those of you in the Wu have definitely noticed, Lush is currently closed for re-awesome-ification (from the Latin: to make more awesome). And I don't about you, but I have no idea what to do with myself. So here's a list I came up with: Practice Chinese Now that my primary source of English interaction has gone, I'll use this time to actually talk to some Chinese people in an attempt to bolster or otherwise hinder the rapid deterioration of my Chinese language, for want of a better word, skillz. Get Some Sleep Hell there's nothing else to do, and Sanlitun's just too far away. Stop Drinking Beer Pass. Wow, that was a short list. let's be real; I'll probably just pass the time playing Beer Pong at Pyro. Ah, sweet Pyro. And have you seen the new Beer Towers? So anyways, Lush's still got a couple of weeks to go but trust me. It'll be awesome. In the meantime, head down to Pyro for those great pizzas/wings/subs as well as the Pub Quiz every Wednesday. |

1st March 2009 So hopefully most of you have heard the good, nay glorious, news that Pyro is back. That's right, the ovens are back on, burning as if to challenge the fires of Hades itself, and the pizzas are a round as, as round as, the circles calculated by Pythagoras- *Note by Jade: Never forget to edit the website* Anyway, we're back. Pyro's on, the wings are on, the toasted subs are on, the pizza is of course back on, and the delivery? Well let me just say that I never need to suffer the indignities of attiring myself in clothing in order to feed. Anyway, the Official Pyro Luau "Hawaiian" Themed Reopening Extravaganza was a great bash, bigups to Amanda for the concept, and the table dancing. Peruse the pics below! And see you real soon at Pyro, 'kay? |

9th January 2009 Woohoo! Check it: a whole brand new year! Who da thunk it? Anyway, it's freaking cold outside so it's a good thing Lush & Pyro are keeping it hot during the long winter nights. Lush Late Night Burger Special: Every night from 2am to 4am our famous Lush Original, Chicken and Teriyaki burgers are a low, low 15rmb! Just the thing to take the edge off a late night munch jones, and even more the thing to take the sting out of a next day hangover. Think ahead people! A bite in time saves nine in the bucket next to your bed. Oh yes. Inauguration Day View-a-thon This is the event you'll be tell your kids about. Watch the CNN broadcast of the culmination of this historic journey in big screen clarity. Oh, and drink everytime anybody says "hope", "change" and "God". And if you're masochistic, "America". 6pm Tuesday, January 20 @ Pyro Pyro Superbowl Tradition Okay, so it goes like this: come to Open Mic Night on the Sunday before until 4am, then off to Pyro to play the Die Hard drinking game (drink on F-bombs, broken glass and confirmed kills) then watch sporting excellence in a drunken haze. 8am Monday, February 2 @ Pyro Wow. Lot's of drinking games. Weird. |

1st December 2008 Big ups to Gino for organizing the Lush Movember Nights event last night. It was an epic celebration of ill-advised masculinity, and to borrow a phrase from my brother, man-whimsy. Congratulations to:
And massive bigs to everybody that sacrificed their monthly poon ration for the entire month. White Trash Party! Roll call! Britney? Did you bring enough bacon for everybody? No? Then PUT IT AWAY! Adnan, get out my classroom. Kid Rock? Sit down, Mr. Rock. You too MS. Anderson. No one's impressed. Ms. Smith? Jordan? Has anybody seen the exchange student? Jor- Oh there you are, hiding behind the two beach ba- Oh. Present. Jordan, please get the janitor. Your friend Ms Winehouse appears to have thrown up in her desk. Anna Nicole Smith? Hmmm... Absent again... Okay, to bring about the end of semester (and the probable Apocalypse) in glorious lack of style, we're throwing a White Trash Party at Pyro. Now, we're equal-opportunity discriminators here in Wudaokou; we won't be restricting ourselves to the Britney-impregnating double-wide residents of the US. We'll be needing to see a global cast of chavs, scousers, bogans, yobbos, hoons, bridge and tunnels, townies, skids, hosers, neds, harrys, wiggers, kogals, fobs and all other cultural unequivalents. Nah mean? Friday, December 12 @ Pyro |

24rd November 2008 It's a busy one, that's for sure. First of all it's Thanksgiving. Not that I'm American, I'm Australian actually. My ongoing joke is that we massacred our indigenous peoples too, we just don't bring over the whole family to celebrate. I know, it's not that funny. Sorry. Anyway, you may not be with your family but you've got your friends out in full effect, G. So swap the turkey for a Beijing Duck or two, then roll down to your friendly neighborhood Wu to take away that holiday sobriety. So thank us very much. 15rmb Cosmos & 25rmb Large Frozen Margaritas at Lush, and 20rmb Pitchers plus an extended (earlier) happy hour at Pyro. Oh, and there's still Beer Pong too! Because nothing says thank you like a roll back. Speaking of beijing Duck, Quanjude in the Google Complex down the road's nice and close, plus each duck you get comes with it's own ID card, certificate of authenticity, or residence permit or something. Anyway, it kind of looks like a trading card and my friend was like, "What? Do you like, have to try and collect the whole family?" Priceless. YEN Black This Friday night: YEN Black, baby. Hot on the heels of the record-annihilating Hallowe'en bash (and dammit if I didn't tell you so, all you nay-sayers out there) is the last YEN party before Countdown, the YEN New Year's Eve party, of which attendance is mandatory. Socially mandatory. And bend! And stretch! Warm up for the big event at the most athletic spot in town! Well, at least we have well developed right arm and wrist muscles. What? From the lifting of beers! C'mon! 15rmb Sex on the Beach, 25rmb Big Fro Mags (I'm SO sick of writing Large Frozen Margaritas) at Lush. Bottle deal at Pyro with 200rmb Absolut or Jim Beam and 180rmb Tequila. Per bottle, not shot glass. No tequila's that good. And hey, Bill Maher has this great quote about California: "We can drink a Mudslide and a Sex on the Beach during an actual mudslide while having sex on the beach!" Too funny. Maybe we should create a drink called "Revolution". Okay, not funny. Latinos Nochas And on Saturday, Friends of the Wu™ and Hermanos para Siempres Chino and Kama will be throwing their (and our) first Latin Party at Pyro. So if you've been craving some crotch-waggling beats, then then bring it on, muchacho. 15rmb Cuba Libres, 20rmb Mojitos, and cheap-ass Tequila. (Oh tequila, you're so cheap. But I can't resist you.) Oh, and FYI, the other tagline was going to be: "I may not para Espanol but I can get para-lytic..." Movember Nights And on Sunday, we finally bring the month to a close with Lush's Open Mic Night conjoined Movember Nights event hosted by Gino. The Australia-based-but-global fundraiser for Men's Health, involving facial hair, (which rules me out, unfortunately) will be in full-grown effect. Featuring 15rmb Mo-Jitos, 25rmb Large Frozen Mo-Garitas, Happy Hour deals, and special prizes for the winning Mo's and the Men who Wear them. WTP Keep the 12th of December free. Don't ask questions, just do it. |

23rd November 2008 I know, I know, it's been a long time. But if you're in the 'Jing right now, I know you understand. My lord, but it's been a busy season. Parties proliferating like black taxis outside of an airport. I feel sorry for the club scene beat writers. I can't even keep our own parties straight. So it was Pyro's First Birthday a couple of weeks ago! Jammies, popcorn, pillow fights, table dancing, and naughty vids on the big screen courtesy of the gutter-minded Joshua. If you were there you know what I mean. Check out the ridiculous-ness live and fruit-loopy in the Pajama Party pics down below. Big ups to the 6AM party posse's first little shindig last weekend. DJ Eyad dropped it like it was hot and he wasn't wearing any protective hand-wear. Safety first people! Food for Thought If I can editorialize for just a minute (and I think I can), my current favorite hangover-delayer is the brand-new awesome-ness that is the Pyro Cheesesteak Toasted Sub. Comprised of a homemade roll, sauteed beef steak, onions and mushrooms, romaine lettuce, ranch dressing, fruit from the Tree of Life and I'm 95% sure Sweat from the Cleavage of Aphrodite is in the recipe somewhere. Just don't ask us how we get that particular item. The resulting glorious mess is then stuck in the oven (or Forge of Hephaestus for the more classically-minded) and toasted crispy brown, cheese melting off in golden rivulets. Forsooth! I wax poetic. Methinks 'tis time for a snack. My Kindgom for a Pyro Cheesesteak! This message was paid for by Pyro. Paid for in Pyro Cheesesteaks. Happy Birthday Mai Big, big ups to our good friend Mai, Royal Friend of the Wu™, party promoter and all-around Good Girl. Happy birthday! And for those of you who didn't have the good fortune to be present at her last birthday, man, how far she's come. This time, we didn't need to fumigate after, the Public Security Bureau weren't called, and women and children didn't need to escape first. Shame Dave didn't make another pinata though. That was so funny. Hallowe'en I don't really want to talk about it. Yes, I missed it. And plus, I'm a month late, so it's not exactly breaking news. I just want to say "I told you so ". Thank me. Again, not to belabour the point (really?) I wasn't there, so no pics from me. Check out pics on the O2 Culture website, as well as Clubzone.cn, and probably TBJ. And of course, career prospect destroying photos of you probably exist in the hundreds on FaceBook. Quickly, untag them before the State Department sees what you really do in your free time. Naughty children. In less depressing news, the reason I missed the Hallowe'en Party (insert crying emoticon here) that I was in Belgium with Pyro's Head bartender Claire (Dong Ye). She was participating in the Stella Artois' annual World Draft Master competition. Long story short, after trouncing her rivals in the regional and national finals, she brought home second place, missing out on first BY A SINGLE POINT. massive, massive accomplishment. Yeah Dong Ye! We're so proud of you. And I have to say, it was worth missing Hallowe'en for. |

16th October 2008 Take a break from ploughing the hard scrabble and raise a jug of pototo vodka in celebration of the successful completion of Lush's Five Year Plan, baby. Okay, well it's tomorrow. Oops! What can we say? It's taken us this long to recover from the Lush Rush hangover. Anyway, congratulations to us! So here are some fun things to do on this Friday night:
It's been a hell of a ride and we couldn't have done it without you. So to all past, present and future Wudaokou crew, cheers. 7pm Friday, October 17 Josh Levels Up! Last night, Master Josh "Vegas" Lally of the Quiz amassed enough experience points (XP) to go up a level. He took a break from group questing through the barren fields of Wudaokoushire to share the loot with some 200 odd guild members at Pyro last night. So what will you spend those skill points on Josh? Liver Regeneration? Carousing? Look out for the stronger, faster, more charismatic Josh stalking the Playa VS Playa battlefields of Wudaokoushire. Happy birthday dude. YEN Fetish Halloween The biggest Halloween Bash in town, we're talking around 2,000 people all dressed up in their finest slutty/humorous attire, all jumping up and down in unison. Get down to Beijing's best house and breaks, laid down by the cream of the underground crop, till the wee hours of the morning. Check out the YEN website here. Follow the link for actual photographic evidence of YEN party madness. Tickets on sale at Lush, but get 'em quick cause we will run out. |

3rd September 2008 The Olympics are fading fast, and London 2012 is just a glint in the future Gymnastics Gold Medalist's father's eye. But don't fret, we have plenty of things going on to keep you busy. Because we're here for you. First of all, we want to welcome the vanguard, the point-men (and point-women - we at Lush are equal opportunity alcoholics), the first into the fray, the tip of the spear, all the new students that have arrived in the past couple of weeks. Welcome to Beijing. I got a chance to catch up with the new crew from CET, PKU's BIAS program and some of the Brits starting up at Cap Norm last week, and I know my man Tai down at Bei Wai's neck-deep in IES freshmen. There're others out there too, but long story short, this semester is getting kicked off. All Lush and Pyro events have been rebooted; we've got Vegas Veteran Josh holding down Pub Quiz on Wednesdays at Lush as well as Beer Pong on Thursdays at Pyro, and solid rotation of acts on Fridays, and myself and Roberto "El Generalissimo" Lein catching rotten tomatoes at Open Mic every Sunday at Lush. They make good salsa. Speaking of salsa, Pyro's rocking brand new Buffalo Wings (with your choice of tasty sauces) and ice-cold Frozen Margaritas. "Evaluate" a large cup today, just 30rmb during Happy Hour. Look, it's not an ad. Well, actually it is, but come on down. Let's meet, do lunch. Or an Irish Car Bomb. The Lush Crew is ready. Are you? Coming Soon This Fall, Lush brings the madness once more with Lush Rush Week, the traditional start of the Wudaokou Spring Semester.
