Pub Quiz Recap! (April 13th, 2011)

Winners – Southbound Pachyderm grab first place for the first time this leaderboard, followd by The Dove Brothers, and Quiz in my Pants to round out the top three.

Leaderboard – Southbound Pachyderm takes the lead this week from Boobies on the Brink, and Quiz in my Pants holds strong to third place. Still anyone’s game as the leaderboard approaches midstream, every team still has the chance to take first (or lose it) in the coming weeks!
Side note: Schneider Weisse is way too strong to drink while hosting a pub quiz! 
I think I’ll stick to Coors Lite from now on…

Winners – The Dove Brothers arise up to take first place and drink a well deserved bottle of Jack Daniels, while Southbound tries to sneakily give away my phone number to the entire room while they place second, and Quiz in my Pants takes third.

I’m glad you did. Yen is the combination of Beijing’s best electronic DJs, a bomb-ass dance floor, delicious drinks mixed up by our trusty Lush staff, and typically some sort of theme to tie it all together.

So here we are in another year of the bunny. Hope you had your dumplings, lit off some of those firecrackers, and maybe did a paper cutting or two. We’ve had 9 days of fireworks, 4185027 quadrillion tons of fireworks an hour set off on average from what it sounds like outside my window, and I’m pretty sure that at current rates, China will have completely exhausted the worlds supply of gunpowder by 2027.
Lush and Pyro stayed open for reduced hours last week, so when people got those nasty midnight munchies, the popular delivery food of choice seems to have been regretful drunken phone calls made to McDonald’s at 2am, like so many drunk dial mistakes to that ex you keep telling everyone you were completely over.
It’s ok. Things are back to normal. Lush and Pyro are back to normal hours, and we’re all back to the grindstone, working on new awesome ways to party in style. Keep an eye out for Lush Rush news, the first Latin party of the year, and on Mr. Hefner’s birthday, a tantalizing Playboy bunny party to warm you up in April… and that’s just the next month or so.

Word up ninjas, its the primo Beijing NYE Celebration 2010!
This Friday we’ll be ringing in the new year in classic Yentastic style at the Countdown Party in 798, specifically at the C-Park, D-Factory. As of this post, the standard 100rmb tickets are still available at Lush and on Clubzone.cn online, as well as a few scattered venues around town if you happen to be out and about, but don’t wait and get caught missing out on the best, last party of 2010 and the best first party of 2011.
If you’re like us, and you take your pre-gaming serious, bear in mind a couple crucial things!
- Getting your crew from homebase to venue always takes longer than you think, especially when trying to motivate people out of the warm booze filled room and into the cold taxi.
- Catching a cab – Oh yeah, Getting a cab in Beijing on a normal night is a nightmare enough, New Years Eve is way, way, way, way, way worse. Sinking in yet?
- Being stuck in a queue waiting to get in the door in the middle of a cold winter Beijing night sucks.
- Being stuck standing in a queue in the middle of a cold Beijing winter night on New Years Eve sucks WAY worse! Don’t be that sad, shivering person who procrastinated and is stuck desperately searching for a compatible cutie to kiss in the queue at midnight.
It never fails that too many people screw up the above and arrive en masse at 11:30pm hoping to rush in and get to the party, but clearing tickets and security for 1000 people in 30 minutes or less is impossible even at the highest tech airports with all the creepy xray scanners and staffing they could afford. Don’t be those people. Instead, follow our handy little checklist below:
- Grab a cab early (aim to arrive at the venue before 10:30 – the earlier the better)
- Plan for traffic (and remember, you’re going to 798, and cabs often aren’t super-familiar with that area)
- Bring a flier, map (there’s a map on the back of the ticket), and the English (156-5216-9887) or Chinese (136-8333-4144) number so one of our event managers can get you there safely and on time.
- Don’t forget your TICKETS!
- Arrive
- Queue
- Check your Coat
- Get your drink tickets
- Get your drinks
- Be on the dance floor before midnight
- Spot the hottie you’re gonna make out with…
- Ring in the new year in style!
