Just had the Pyro Cheese Steak. Best steak sandwich in the Wu, hands down. Better ingredients, better sandwich.
Best sandwich place in beijing, bar none. pizza’s great and the beer flows cheaply. Lush/Pyro are the best reasons to come to the wu
Personally, I felt the cheese steak was far from home. I suppose it makes sense that when a cheese steak sandwich is made on the opposite side of the globe as Philadelphia that it should in fact be made in a completely opposite way.
I’m not quite convinced that Slim Jim isn’t just a spam bot comment, but just in case its a real person, I’ll give an honest answer to that comment.
The Pyro Cheese Steak Sandwich isn’t a Philly, it was never supposed to be, which is why we didn’t call it a Philly Cheesesteak. Philly Cheesesteaks are typically served on Amoroso rolls, made in Philly, having a distinct texture and flavor to the bread that’s paired with the thinly sliced rib-eye and onions, peppers, mushrooms, and typically either cheese whiz, provolone, or American cheese. Philly Cheesesteaks are amazing and delicious, if not some of the most delightfully unhealthy things I’ve ever put into my body
The Pyro Cheese Steak is served on our homemade French bread, with onions, peppers, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese, which is certainly similar, but with much less grease and no processed ingredients or preservatives. We also use a much different spice blend when we fry it up, giving it a broader flavor profile.
So hopefully, although its not a Philly copy, it will still satisfy those people with a desire for a good thin-sliced, steak sandwich.
@danB I do like the pizzas from pyro and yes the beer is cheap, but in my humble opinion korean bars and women are the best reasons to come to the wu…
I may be a spam bot, John Conner, but I know the difference between mayonaise and mozzarella.
Good pizza, cheap beer.
It just might be a little too noisy when it’s late, but it’s still a nice place.
Is Wei gong cun area covered? i.e. beiwai? really wanna have nice pizza without traveling up to Wudaokou :p
When asking I’m told delivery is until midnight. When calling however it always seems to stop “some time” before midnight. I assume this is because the delivery guy doesn’t want to be out after midnight. It makes the order deadline a bit fuzzy and seemingly random though. Is it possible get/set a clear time until which delivery orders are accepted?
I come from Spain and I will be studying in Beijing next year, I was looking for nightlife in Beijing and I found your place as one of the good ones. Congrats! Also it is really helpful to find a good website, I hope to visit you soon! Have a good one!
I don’t think you get your money’s worth here. After paying over 60RMB I was still not full, and we had to order more. The bill came to around over 80rmb per person. I’ve had cheaper pizza (which tastes much the same) at Red House, and they even include a free beer for every pizza. I recommend Pyros make it a thicker base so we get our money’s worth!
@Jeff – This troubles me. Is it 5-10 minutes, or something more like 15-20 minutes before midnight? It could be that our clocks in Pyro are running fast and we just need to adjust them (if its only a few minutes). Either way, I’ll definitely look into it and I thank you for taking the time to give us feedback!
@James – You’re going to have a great time out here James, and we look forward to meeting you when you arrive! If you have any questions before you come, let us know on here, or write on our Facebook wall http://www.facebook.com/LushBeijing
@Stef – Thank you for your feedback Stef, and I can definitely understand where you’re coming from. Our pizza is not the cheapest option in Wudaokou. But as the F&B manager, I can tell you without a doubt that we go to great lengths to guarantee quality and consistency. For most of our products, that means importing goods from overseas so that our pizzas truly represent the flavors that we associate with home. What I recommend if you’re on a budget, is the All You Can Eat special, every day from 12pm-2pm, for 49rmb that includes 4 rotating choices of pizza, and you can get all you can drink beer for only 5rmb more. Again, thanks for your comment Stef, and if you ever have any suggestions or constructive criticisms, please feel free to comment here, or if you’re in the store, ask the staff to find or call me and I’ll make time to get your feedback.
Why don’t they also have cookie pizza in their delivery menu? D:
@Jenn – We don’t put the giant pizza cookie on the delivery menu because we don’t have a method of delivering the ice cream (that comes with the cookie) without all the ice cream melting.
HI i’m new to beijing and just found out about your place. Do you deliver to CBD/sanlitun area?
@Katrina – Hi there and welcome to Beijing! Unfortunately, we don’t deliver out that far (We’re on the opposite side of the city), but our sister company, Gung Ho! Gourmet Pizza Factory does deliver to the CBD/Sanlitun areas. Gung Ho focuses on the gourmet side of pizza making, but their prices are excellent, the pizza is delicious, and the delivery is the fastest in Beijing. Don’t forget about Pyro though. If you’re ever in the Wudaokou area, Pyro is a place you won’t want to miss out on!
Have you tried Online Ordering? Comment on this post and let us know what you think or how we can make it even better!
wow that slim jim guy is mad funny . but he is right both mayo and mozz are both processed.
i must say lately the pizza hasn’t been consistent and from previous comments that girl stef is spot on . im not hating just stating my experiences good and bad. the pyro points and the online ordering system are great. and the best place for cold beer at reasonable prices not just in the wu but in all of the jing is definately lush and heavens near SLT , but the food has been so so lately . while the pizza isnt bad and unedible like some other establishments here u dont feel great value is the best way i can put it , unless u order from 2-4 pm =) Managing a kitchen and a bar is exteemely tough especially with the amount of volume u guys do so dont worry u havnt lost a custy just tryin to give some feedback . will be ordering right after this blunt =)
@blazed in the Wu – First of all, thanks very much for sharing your comments with us so that we can work on always being better! You’re absolutely right on the mayonnaise, it is a processed food. I was unclear in my previous post and I was referring to the other ingredients, but that was not clear from how I wrote it. On the cheese, I suppose its a matter of definition. We use Anchor brand mozzarella, which is not a processed cheese, where Cheese Whiz, Velveeta, or American Cheeses (all commonly used in most American cheesesteak sandwiches) all are.
As far as the pizza being inconsistent lately, are you talking recently as in the last few months, weeks, or just this past week or so? Over Chinese New Year we had a skeleton crew working 12 hour days so that we could stay open, and its possible that since we only had a couple delivery guys, that some of the deliveries may have taken longer than normal, resulting in below average pizza quality. However, if you feel that the quality has been inconsistent both in-store and over delivery, and over a longer period of time, please contact me so that I can get more detailed feedback and address my staff training.
Finally, thanks for the positive feedback on the pizza points, online ordering, 2-4pm special, and on our cold beers at Lush! We know we’re more expensive than many other places in Wudaokou, but we won’t sacrifice on quality and because of our imported toppings, cheeses, and products (as well as our commitment to our staff treatment), it drives up our bottom line. But even though we have to charge what we do, we try and make up for it with awesome specials like the M-F, 2-4pm pizza upgrade special, or the Tuesday buy 1 get one subs, or our daily happy hours. And as always, keep those comments coming. Every suggestion and comment gets read and we often make changes based around comments if enough people share the same opinion. Thanks again!
I’m sorry guys but I just ordered this and it was NOT real pizza. I’m from New York so maybe I have higher standards but 75% of this BBQ chicken pizza consisted of sauce. When I think of pizza I like to think of the cheese and the crust. It was just not there. I was hoping it would be at least decent since this place is owned by foreigners but I guess not.
The crust reminded me of the communion wafers I used to eat at church. I would comment on the cheese but there wasn’t even enough to make a comment on it.
To be fair I do really like the sandwiches here. But if you’re going to call yourselves Pyro Pizza at least try to live up to it.
However Josh, I do really appreciate all of your personal responses to the comments on this site. I think you guys really are trying your hardest to create a business that appeals to everyone.
Hiya Steve!
First of all, thank you very much for your feedback and for recognizing our dedication to constant improvement. The next time you’re in the store, I would love to sit down with you and talk pizza, and get more detailed feedback and suggestions – especially if you’ve worked in the biz and can offer info on how we can improve our overall pizza offering. You’re absolutely right that its not real NY pizza, because we don’t have the same water as New York (which any New Yorker will agree is one of the crucial elements to real NY Pizza – a fact that Grimaldi’s took serious when they opened in Las Vegas, spending thousands on water specialists to get the exact right ph and mineral balance before they made their first pie). Equally enough, we’re not real Neapolitan or any other real Italian. We try to make a good pie in the style of New York pizza, making adjustments here and there for the taste buds of customers from all over the globe. I am interested in what you have to say about the crust though, because while it should have a crisp to the crust, it should absolutely not be dry like a communion wafer, so I’ll definitely look into it and throw a few variations through the oven and see if we need to adjust our recipe. Cheese is pretty much the same situation, some people want a pound, some just a pinch. So we usually default to somewhere in the middle, but the great thing about Pyro, is that if you ask for extra cheese, we give a substantial extra amount, not just a couple sprinkles.
Overall, I again want to thank you for taking the time to send us a line and I completely understand that New Yorkers take their pizza seriously, as you totally should! Let me know when you’re around the area and want to meet up for a slice and a beer or two and we’ll talk shop. Just send me an email josh (at) lushbeijing (dot) com or drop by the stores during the week and have them call me up! Cheers and see you around!
Hey Dylan,
Oh the horror of having your wristband ripped off. I feel your pain, truly. And I will send a couple of wristbands to you as soon as possible. Keep the Wu spirit alive!!

Kate
